Fall Trends – Fashion Looks

Filed under: The Latest Trends — xfrenchx @ 8:42 pm

Fads may come and go, but trends are key pieces that get you through the different seasons with style and flare. A basic wardrobe consists of timeless classics, but purchasing a few statement garments help you add character and personality to your outfits. Purchasing trendy pieces is important in any wardrobe, no matter what your style is, but figuring out which trends will work for you, and better yet, which will last you the longest, is no easy task. Every season sees an abundance of different trends, catering to a wide variety of people. So how do you know which ones to follow, and which ones to avoid? Well basically, when it comes to trends, it all depends on what you like, and of course what looks good on you. Here I will go over the main looks of this season.

Bohemian Luxe: It’s no secret that the Bohemian look has swept the fashion industry by storm the last few seasons. This season is no exception, with Boho possibly being bigger than it has ever been before. This is most likely due to the fact that designers have officially re-vamped the look, to appeal to a broader market. This season, the boho girl goes rich, drawing inspiration from old-world royalty and riches. Boho has now become more sophisticated and elegant, making the style easier to wear for most women. Details such as feathers, fringe and furs/shearling dominate this look.

– Gucci: Folkloric details make this simple black jacket wearable, while adding personlity to your wardrobe.

– Issa: This wonderfully crafted Issa dress is a great statement piece for any closet.

– Hermes: Layering in monochromatic hues is easy, yet chic and dynamic.

– All three looks prove this season’s bohemian girl is nowhere without a great pair of “earthly” boots (think anything suede or leather, faux or real), and a great pair of neutral stockings underneath for extra warmth. (Wanna add some pop? Try out Fall’s “neutrals” – olive green, burnt orange or mustard yellow are all great hues for the bohemian girl)

– Country Chic: Most fall/winter seasons see a little bit of “country” inspired clothing, as these articles tend to be cold-weather friendly. This year, the normally rustic style gets updated into a chic, stylish wardrobe. Plaids, tweeds and checks are the prints du jour, and of course furs and shearling – whether real or fake, although faux is the favourite due to its animal friendliness.

– Carolina Herrera vamps up her country look with a gorgeous dress, and brings it back to the sticks with gloves, scrunchy boots and of course a chic hat. All we need now is one of Fall’s big and chunky knit sweaters.

– Isabel Marant stays true to the country roots and offers up a more casual way to wear this trend. Baggy pants and a loose fitting flannel shirt are made chic with an oversized purse and an absoltely gorgeous pair of suede boots.

– Steering away from its usual preppy line, Lacoste joins in on this extremely comfortable trend, in a more put-together way. Each of these pieces are great together, but you’ll get just as much wear outta them individually! Leave it to Lacoste to make an easy look more pratical than it’s supposed to be!

– Minimalism: As they often say, less is more. The minimalistic look of the 90’s is back, but with more class and sophistication. It’s like a throwback to the classics, and this season you will understand just why those classics are so important. Simple silhouettes are enhanced by lots of layering. Black is an obvious staple, along with other neutrals. Boring? Never! This effortless starkness is all just a backdrop for your beautiful face and body, and needless of any crazy prints or embellishments that just distract the eye from you. Plus, minimalistic garments are universally appropriate for any woman of any size, shape, age or lifestyle, so it’s not only super stylish but it’s also very smart. Leading minimalist designers such as Jil Sander and Narcisco Rodriguez feel quite at home this season.

– Narcisco Rodriguez: Simple yet super-trendy, this white dress is the type of design that made this label famous. A semi-fitted empire waist and some hugely revered dress pockets, make it easy to see why this dress is a favourite.

– Jil Sander: Monochromatics has always been the most flattering hue palette, and that’s no secret to Jil Sander. This dark yet feminine coat-dress is a great addition to any wardrobe and is likely to make the “go-to” list.

– rag&bone: Possibly the trendiest garment of this look, the shift dress moves in to focus for Fall/Winter 08. The simple cut makes this piece extremely versatile and it’s a great layering piece. Neutral grey can be worn with almost any hue and is a good option from black.

– Winter Garden: Everything about nature was taken out of our gardens and placed right on the runways of the biggest designers. This is probably the most prominent trend for the season, and a big surprise for almost everyone! Florals and leaves, foliage and feathers, usually prints for the summertime; but now winter can be pretty too! The key to this look is finding these florals in winter-friendly colour palettes. Try to avoid anything too sunny, or you will just look out of place. Vintage florals are a huge hit since their colour palettes are more subdued – and they match well with the bohemian styles of the season.

– Asprey offers an exquisite suit adorned with roses in a gorgeously feminine silhouette. Wear it as one for an ultra-rich look during the holidays, then use them as seperates. The jacket will add class to a pair of jeans and you can dress down the skirt with a pair of flats.

– Tuleh hits the mark with this fun and chic coat. A great statement piece for the season, this coat is likely to brighten your spirits through all those nasty months. The length is perfect for wearing over dresses and skirts, and the hourglass shape it creates is sure to have you feeling glamorous.

– Karen Walker takes a more vintage approach to the trend this month, with an adorable yet sophiticated dress. The colours fit in nicely with fall’s colour palette and the shift is of course, the dress of the season. The dress is its own statement piece so accessories aren’t needed.

– Rocker Chic: As we progress into an era of minimalism, the rocker chic look is inspired by the 90’s grunge movement, but tweaked to look fashion forward and chic. This tough and edgy look consists of a lot of leather, futuristic, architectural pieces and shiny sleek fabrics like patent. Black, white, red and a whole lot of silver hardware are key palettes for this look. For a simple, versatile choice, invest in a great leather jacket that will be stylish year after year.

– The Rock & Republic label is not new to this look at all. The result of years experience is this amazingly chic single button coat, that would be simple and boring if it wasn’t for the exquisite craftmanship and the addition of a gorgeous turtleneck. Let’s not leave out those wicked skintight pants and leather boots.

– Sass & Bide brings a technicolour dress into the mix of black, red and metallics, while staying true to the real idea behind the look. This plaid jumper is sure to turn heads (in a good way) and is fun for winter.

– Baby Phat stepped out of her usual comfort zone of urban clothing to wow her guests with a line full of rock inspired outfits. This black and white houdstooth coat is surprisingly cute, not to mention totally wearable and I can’t help but love the leather leggings (even though most of us – myself included – would never dare to wear them).
